About Us

Miami Tribe members and Miami University officials sign on an agreement for the preservation of Miami cultural artifacts and documents
The Myaamia Foundation is dedicated to funding the research and educational projects associated with Myaamia language and cultural revitalization. We are a 501(c)3, tax exempt, charitable organization, incorporated in the State of Oklahoma.
The Foundation operates with an entirely volunteer Board of Trustees who meet several times annually to oversee the work of the Foundation. The Board includes Miami Tribe members as well as others. Our current Board President, Dr. Robert Wicks, is Professor of Art at Miami University in Ohio and Director of the Miami University Art Museum.
The Foundation's Director, Dr. Reed Anderson, also serves on a volunteer basis at the pleasure of the Board, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization. He was professor and associate dean at Miami University and has been involved with University/Miami Tribe relations for many years. He is retired and currently lives in Ramah, New Mexico.
Our Honorary Board of Trustees is made up of individuals who have demonstrated their interest in the Miami people and the work of language and cultural revitalization among Native Americans nation-wide. We are happy to have their expertise and wisdom as we look for ways to enhance and support these important endeavors for the Miami People.
The primary work towards the revitalization of Miami language and culture is carried out by the Myaamia Project, a nationally recognized research center located at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The Myaamia Project is one of the principal beneficiaries of the Myaamia Foundation.
The Myaamia Project conducts research on Miami language and culture, and disseminates this important knowledge through its educational programs. Director Daryl Baldwin, a linguist and Miami Tribe member, oversees the mission of the Project from its offices on the Miami University campus.
In establishing the Myaamia Project, the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and Miami University formed a unique and rich partnership that is the outgrowth of many years of building personal and institutional relationships. The Myaamia Project is at the heart of this partnership. To learn more about the Myaamia Project, please read about Our Work, or visit the Project’s website at myaamiaproject.org.
The Myaamia Foundation makes every effort to assure that this web site is updated periodically and that it accurately represents the current staff and personnel of the Foundation, as well as the projects that are being featured for funding.
